Azure Hybrid Benefit for SQL Server

Effective October 11, 2021 enterprise customer billing administrators worldwide can manage Azure Hybrid Benefit for SQL Server at an Azure billing account or subscription scope level.

Azure Hybrid Benefit lets Enterprise Agreement customers reduce costs by assigning their existing on-premises Windows server and SQL Server licenses with active Software Assurance to Azure. Now, instead of assigning the benefit to each individual Azure resource (for example, virtual machine), billing administrators can assign SQL Server licenses to an Azure subscription or entire billing account.

Here’s how it works:
  • The customer assesses Azure SQL usage and license availability.
  • The administrator selects a subscription or billing account scope and assigns licenses.
  • Each hour, the system applies the licenses to Azure SQL resources.
  • The administrator periodically monitors license use and adjusts accordingly.
  • The customer enjoys savings on their Azure bills.
